NARIN'S BROTHER BARAN GÜRAN TAKES A STEP BACK
Lawyer Aydın Özdemir from the Diyarbakır Bar Association's Narin Güran Murder Case Monitoring Commission made statements.
Özdemir said, "Previously, Narin's brother Baran Güran had granted power of attorney for the Diyarbakır Bar Association to follow the process. However, a few days ago, Baran Güran sent a notice of revocation and withdrew the power of attorney. Previously, the family was generally saying, 'We trust the institutional structure of the Diyarbakır Bar Association, let the Bar be involved in the file impartially.' However, a few days ago, Baran Güran sent a notice of revocation and canceled the power of attorney. As the Bar, we had not performed any transactions using that power of attorney."
A FIRST IN TURKEY
Stating that for the first time in Turkey, a Bar Association is participating in a case as an institution with the status of 'complainant,' Özdemir said, "As far as we have determined, Bar Associations have not been accepted into any case as a 'complainant' until now.
For the first time in Turkey, this request was accepted upon the initiative of the Diyarbakır Bar Association. At the current stage, it has become even more important that the judicial authorities have added the Diyarbakır Bar Association as a complainant. From now on, we will be able to follow the case file without the need for the family's approval or consent.
The Diyarbakır Bar Association will take part in all stages of the trial with the Case Monitoring Commission it has established and will fulfill its responsibility. Whether the family requests it or not, we are participating in the file in the capacity of a 'complainant'," he said.
