New development regarding Narin Güran, who went missing in Diyarbakır: A tip-off was received

The search for 8-year-old Narin Güran, who went missing in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of Diyarbakır's Bağlar district, continues on its 17th day. As teams continue their efforts in the area searching for a trace of Narin, a new tip regarding the young child has been received.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of August 21 in the rural Tavşantepe neighborhood of the Bağlar district. When Narin Güran, who had been attending a Quran course, did not return home afterward, her family searched for her on their own. After the search conducted with the villagers also yielded no results, Narin's father, Arif Güran, went to the gendarmerie station at around 20:00 on the same day to report that his daughter was missing.

Following this, the Bağlar Gendarmerie Command, Bağlar Public Order Commando Company Command, Gendarmerie Special Operations teams, Gendarmerie Crime Investigation Teams (JASAT), the Intelligence Branch Directorate, the Dog Tracking Team, and the Underwater Search and Rescue Team, as well as health, AFAD, Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality underwater search teams, and search and rescue teams from district municipalities were dispatched to the region.

Approximately 150 vehicles identified as passing through the area during the hours Narin went missing have been questioned. Searches were conducted in the houses in the neighborhood and in vehicles entering the village. To date, a total of 12 thousand 565 vehicles have been searched, 130 people have been questioned, 32 thousand 952 people have been checked, and searches have been carried out over an area of more than 11 thousand decares with 7 tracking dogs.

Additionally, the final footage of Narin before she went missing has emerged. In the security camera footage from the school dated August 21 at 15:15, moments show Narin walking with 4 friends, after which she separates from them and heads toward her home using the hill path.

During the search efforts, two different children's slippers were found, one 3 kilometers from the Güran family's home on August 22, and another 2 kilometers away on August 28. However, it was determined that neither of the slippers belonged to Narin Güran, based on statements from her family.

The first person to be detained in connection with the disappearance of 8-year-old Narin was her older brother. However, the brother was released. The 18-year-old brother was detained due to bite marks seen on his arm. Samples of his jaw structure, obtained from photographs of Narin, were sent to the Istanbul Council of Forensic Medicine for comparison. However, no findings were obtained regarding whose the bite mark belonged to. The brother was subsequently released.

As both the search efforts and the investigation continue, Narin's uncle, Salim Güran, who is also the headman (muhtar) of the rural Tavşantepe neighborhood, has been taken into custody.

It has been stated that DNA samples taken from Güran's vehicle matched the DNA samples found on Narin's clothing. Following his processing at the gendarmerie, Salim Güran was transferred to the courthouse in an armored vehicle and was subsequently arrested by the court on charges of 'intentional homicide' and 'deprivation of liberty'.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made a statement regarding the detention of uncle Salim Güran.

Speaking to 24TV, Minister Tunç said, "All state institutions have been mobilized. Statements are being taken, and detentions are being carried out within the framework of those statements. There are DNA findings. Arrest warrants were issued due to the matching of the DNA of Narin's parents and the uncle in the vehicle in terms of DNA findings."

Emphasizing that detention is a precautionary measure, Minister Tunç stated, "When there is a suspicion of a crime, detention is at the discretion of the judge."

Minister Tunç stated the following: “A determination was made regarding the marks on the brother's body, but it could not be determined to whom those bruises belonged. All of these are matters that will be evaluated by our judiciary. Our judiciary will do what is necessary here down to the finest detail.”

As part of the search efforts for Narin Güran, a special team from Diyarbakır and a special team from Ankara have been working in coordination. The team continues its operations within and around the neighborhood. In the work carried out by the teams to date, the area surrounding the neighborhood has been searched 8 times. However, no trace of Narin has been found.

On the 15th day of the investigation, a search was conducted in the neighborhood cemetery by the gendarmerie, accompanied by the investigating prosecutor, using underground imaging equipment, specifically focusing on the graves of those recently buried. However, no findings were discovered.

As search efforts for the missing Narin continue, a new tip has been received by the gendarmerie. Following the tip, teams have intensified their operations at Eğertutmaz Creek.

Five divers who entered the water conducted an examination of the stream bed and the creek bottom using rods in their hands.

Tracking dogs also accompanied the teams.

No traces belonging to Narin were found during the investigation. Operations in the area are ongoing.
