Nvidia increases investments in China: aiming to be the leader in autonomous driving

Nvidia has hired hundreds of new employees in China this year to focus on self-driving vehicle technologies. Sources familiar with the matter stated that one of the world's most valuable companies plans to increase its headcount from approximately 3,000 at the beginning of 2024 to nearly 4,000 by the end of the year.
5.4 BILLION DOLLARS IN REVENUE IN CHINA IN THE SEPTEMBER QUARTER
Santa Clara, California-based Nvidia is increasing its workforce globally to meet the rising demand for artificial intelligence processors. Despite US trade bans restricting the sale of Nvidia's most advanced chips, the company generated 5.4 billion dollars in revenue in China during the September quarter. China continues to be both a strategic market and an important research hub for the US chip manufacturer.
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED INTO NVIDIA IN CHINA
Although Nvidia is trying to maintain strong relations with Beijing, the local antitrust regulator announced this week that it has launched an investigation into the company's 2020 acquisition of Mellanox. This investigation began just weeks after CEO Jensen Huang praised China's contributions to technology during a visit to Hong Kong. Nvidia declined to comment on the investigation.
NVIDIA PARTNERS WITH FIRMS FOR AUTONOMOUS DRIVING
Beijing's support for domestic electric vehicle manufacturers has made the country a leader in electric vehicle technologies while contributing to the reduction of costs for new-generation connected cars. Nvidia has been working on developing driving automation and artificial intelligence software for over 10 years, but its initiatives in this field have not yet achieved concrete success. The company's research team in China is in an advantageous position to collaborate with domestic automakers that need such technologies to improve their products.
According to a statement made by Nvidia in February, the company has a total of 29,600 employees in 36 countries. In China, it has grown in recent years to establish a staff of approximately 600 in Beijing and has opened a new office in the Zhongguancun technology hub.
