OSD announces 7-month data: Production fell by 5 percent compared to last year

The Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) has announced the production and export figures as well as market data for the January-July period.
Accordingly, total automotive production in the 7-month period decreased by 5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 823 thousand 636 units. Automobile production decreased by 2 percent to 542 thousand 177 units.
Total production, including tractor manufacturing, reached 853 thousand 704 units.
In the January-July period, production in the commercial vehicle group declined by 12 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while it fell by 18 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle group and by 11 percent in the light commercial vehicle group.
During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was recorded at 73 percent. Capacity utilization rates on a vehicle group basis were 73 percent for light vehicles, 77 percent for the truck group, 54 percent for the bus-midibus group, and 69 percent for tractors.
Between January and July, automotive exports decreased by 1 percent in terms of units compared to the same period last year, totaling 581 thousand 865. While automobile exports recorded a 1 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year, commercial vehicle exports declined by 5 percent.
Tractor exports decreased by 20 percent compared to the same period in 2023, totaling 9 thousand 532 units.
According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) (excluding exports exempt from exporter union registration and the difference between warehouses and free zones), total automotive industry exports maintained their top position in sectoral exports with a 16 percent share in the 7-month period of 2024.
According to data from the Uludağ Exporters' Association (UİB), total automotive exports in the 7-month period increased by 1 percent compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 20.7 billion dollars. In euro terms, exports remained stable, amounting to 18.9 billion euros. During this period, while main industry exports remained stable in dollar terms, supply industry exports increased by 3 percent.
In the January-July period, the total market remained at a similar level to the same period of the previous year, reaching 698 thousand 368 units, while the automobile market grew by 3 percent, with sales reaching 536 thousand 351 units.
Looking at the commercial vehicle market, the total commercial vehicle market and the light commercial vehicle market contracted by 11 percent in these 7 months compared to the same period of the previous year, while the decline in the heavy commercial vehicle market was recorded as 9 percent.
In the January-July period of 2024, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was recorded at 30 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 31 percent.
