Proposal on minimum wage and pension from AKP's alliance partner MHP: 'It should be increased above that'

A notable proposal regarding the minimum wage hike has come from the People's Alliance partner, MHP. Speaking during the 2025 budget negotiations for the Ministries of Labor and Social Security, Interior, and Agriculture and Forestry at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), MHP Bursa Deputy Fevzi Zırhlıoğlu announced their demands for the minimum wage.

MINIMUM WAGE PROPOSAL FROM MHP

In his speech at the Parliament, MHP Bursa Deputy Fevzi Zırhlıoğlu argued that the net minimum wage should be raised above the hunger threshold.

WHAT IS THE HUNGER THRESHOLD?

Türk-İş had announced the hunger threshold for November as 20 thousand 562 TL.

Stating that a common ground must be found regarding the minimum wage so that workers, civil servants, and retirees do not suffer, MHP's Zırhlıoğlu said, "As the MHP, we propose that the minimum standard of living be calculated based on an index and that a minimum income support be provided to every family earning below this level."

DEMAND FOR 'ACCRUAL RATE' FOR PENSIONS

Using notable expressions regarding pensions as well, Zırhlıoğlu said that salary increases for all retirees should be determined according to the same principles, and that inequalities between pensions should be eliminated by reviewing the update coefficient and monthly accrual rates.

MHP Çankırı Deputy Pelin Yılık also stated that in order for the country's economy to develop, new active employment policies must be developed and reflected in working life, adding...

"In addition to employment, developing a culture of matching people to jobs, increasing productivity during work, keeping work motivation high, and making individuals compatible with their work, workplace, colleagues, employers, and stakeholders are among the duties of social services." she said.

Yılık said, "As the MHP, our expectation is that all civil servants who reach the first degree benefit from the 3600 supplementary indicator, that the differences in the number of premium payment days between SSK and Bağkur are eliminated, and that income tax brackets regarding wages are redefined.
