Hero Prosecutor Yavuz Engin, who dismantled the newborn gang, watched the baby killers in handcuffs

Public Prosecutor Yavuz Engin, who also had those who threatened him arrested during the investigation into the newborn gang, had Mustafa Kemal Zengin and Lawyer Aylin Arslanatar—who came to his office and threatened him and his family—handcuffed in reverse at the courthouse door after their arrest.

The first arrests in the investigation regarding the newborn gang were made on April 22, 2023. 22 people were arrested and sent to prison.

While the investigation was ongoing, in August 2024, Lawyer Aylin Arslanatar called Public Prosecutor Yavuz Engin.

Arslanatar, who first spoke by phone with Engin, the Prosecutor for Terror and Organized Crimes at the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, threatened that if he did not secure the release of certain suspects, an assassination would be carried out against the prosecutor and his family could be harmed.

Along with Lawyer Arslanatar, a person named Mustafa Kemal Zengin also made threats.

According to the report on NTV, an investigation was conducted into how information regarding the prosecutor's relatives and their places of residence was leaked, and a recording device had been placed in the prosecutor's office.

On October 1, Zengin, whose contact with Lawyer Arslanatar was established, claimed to be a former undersecretary and made suggestions and threats to the prosecutor.

Zengin's explicit death threat against the prosecutor was recorded. Mustafa Kemal Zengin, who threatened the prosecutor in his office, spoke in the prosecutor's office where a hidden camera had been placed, alongside the baby gang's lawyer.

Zengin's following words were recorded:

"If I have given instructions to 50 people, if 50 people are acting on my behalf, you cannot finish them off by rounding up those who come. I am telling you these are not normal people. Release the one inside. Get rid of the trouble. This is no longer about the issue itself, it is about intentional harm. The person in front of you is not a fair person. What about the shooting range you go to, your entry and exit times, the increase in the security with you, who is your family talking to? Who is your sister talking to? Where is your father going? Is his wife going to the grocery store? Is his father going to the mosque? What kind of precautions will you take? Without knowing who you are facing."

Following these threats, Prosecutor Engin took action again. Within the scope of the investigation launched by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on October 11, 11 people involved in the threat incident were detained.

While 3 gendarmerie personnel among the suspects were released after their procedures, 8 suspects, including 2 lawyers, were referred to the Büyükçekmece Courthouse.

Of the 8 suspects whose statements were completed at the prosecutor's office within the scope of the investigation, 5 were referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest, and 3 with a request for judicial control conditions.

The judgeship decided to arrest lawyer Aylin Arslantatar, Mustafa Kemal Zengin, Baki Çelik, Yavuz Çelik, and Muhammed Emin Orhan on charges of "violating the privacy of private life," "threat with more than one person," "attempted premeditated murder of a public official due to their duty," "influencing the person performing judicial duty, and illegally obtaining or disseminating personal data," and to release lawyers M.G., I.K., and T.A. under judicial control conditions.

WHO IS PROSECUTOR YAVUZ ENGIN?

Prosecutor Yavuz Engin was born in Germany in 1989. He completed his primary and secondary education at Bolu 50. Yıl Secondary School and his high school education at Bolu İzzet Baysal Anatolian High School in 2008. He began his university education at Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 2009 and graduated in 2013.

After graduation, he completed his legal internship at the Istanbul Bar Association and began his professional career as a prosecutor candidate in 2014. Following his internship, he was appointed to the Saruhanlı Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Prosecutor Engin was promoted to the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office by the HSK in April 2024.

WHAT HAPPENED?

While conducting the investigation into the unfair profit obtained by transferring babies to private hospitals, lawyer A.A., who spoke with Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terror and Organized Crimes Investigation Prosecutor Y.E. first by phone and then in his office on August 30, had threatened that if he did not secure the release of certain suspects, an assassination would be carried out against the prosecutor and his family could be harmed. Within the scope of the investigation launched upon this, an investigation was conducted into how information regarding the prosecutor's relatives and their places of residence was leaked, and a recording device had been placed in the prosecutor's office. Mustafa Kemal Zengin, whose contact with Lawyer A.A. was established, was recorded explicitly threatening the prosecutor he met with.

In the examination conducted, it was understood that the prosecutor's personal and family information had been queried from the system by 3 gendarmerie personnel on a date prior to the threats. 11 people were detained in the operation organized within the scope of the investigation. On the other hand, the indictment prepared against 47 suspects, 22 of whom are under arrest, including doctors and nurses, who were determined to have acted in concert with people working at the 112 Emergency Call Center to refer emergency baby patients to private hospitals they had pre-arranged with and to have obtained unfair profit, which is being conducted by Prosecutor Y.E., had been sent to the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
