Recent rainfall in Istanbul boosts dam levels

According to data from the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ), the occupancy rate in the dams reached its highest level this year on May 6 at 83.43 percent, while it showed a decline to 40.55 percent by September 20 following that date.

The water levels in dams have begun to rise again following the rainfall that has been effective in recent days.

As of today, the average occupancy rate of the dams supplying water to the city was measured at 40.70 percent.

Water levels were recorded as 34.84 percent in Ömerli, 45.69 percent in Darlık, 57.08 percent in Elmalı, 56.53 percent in Terkos, 8.85 percent in Alibey, 41.66 percent in Büyükçekmece, 48.33 percent in Sazlıdere, 38.66 percent in Istırancalar, 7.45 percent in Kazandere, and 23.16 percent in Pabuçdere.

WATER DRAWN FROM MELEN AND YEŞİLÇAY

So far this year, 346.95 million cubic meters of water have been drawn from Melen and Yeşilçay. The amount of water supplied to the city from drinking water treatment plants this year was calculated at 838.07 million cubic meters.

In the period from the beginning of the year to September 21, the amount of precipitation falling on the dams was 431.16 kilograms per square meter.

While the dams and ponds supplying water to the city have a total storage capacity of 868 million 683 thousand cubic meters, the water volume as of today has been recorded at 353.53 million cubic meters.

Daily water consumption in Istanbul was measured at 3 million 234 thousand cubic meters as of yesterday.

OCCUPANCY RATES OF THE LAST 10 YEARS

According to İSKİ statistics, the dam occupancy rates for September 21 were recorded as 17.98 percent in 2014, 63.36 in 2015, 46.92 in 2016, 56.29 in 2017, 57.06 in 2018, 52 percent in 2019, 40.21 in 2020, 52.86 in 2021, 51.09 in 2022, and 24.43 in 2023.
