Data released by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Wholesale Market Directorate has revealed the high increase in vegetable and fruit prices.
Compared to November of last year, the prices of many products have increased by over 200 percent, causing consumers' kitchen expenses to multiply.
PRICE HIKE CHAMPION: BROCCOLI
Among vegetables, the product with the highest price increase was broccoli. Broccoli, which was 25 TL in November last year, was offered for sale at 90 TL this year, marking a 260 percent increase. Broccoli was followed by Charleston peppers and tomatoes, both with price increases of 250 percent.
The price of both products rose from 20 TL to 70 TL. Cauliflower also rose from 15 TL to 50 TL, an increase of 233 percent.
Other staple vegetables such as iceberg lettuce, curly lettuce, zucchini, eggplant, cucumber, and bell peppers also drew attention with price increase rates exceeding 100 percent.
MANDARIN TOPS THE LIST FOR FRUITS
Among fruits, the product with the highest price increase was the mandarin, with a 233 percent increase. The price of mandarins, which was 15 TL per kilogram in November last year, reached 50 TL this year.
Grapes rose from 28 TL to 70 TL with a 150 percent increase, while strawberries rose from 150 TL to 300 TL with a 100 percent increase. Other fruits such as lemons, oranges, bananas, pomegranates, and persimmons were also affected by the price hikes.
