Republic of Korea builds homes for 2 earthquake-survivor veterans
The Republic of Korea has paid its debt of gratitude to two Korean War veterans from Kahramanmaraş, who participated in the war 74 years ago, by building them new homes to replace those they lost in the earthquake.

Two Korean War veterans whose homes were destroyed in Kahramanmaraş, the epicenter of the February 6, 2023 earthquakes, have received new homes with the support of the Republic of Korea Army Headquarters, the ROTC social contribution group, and the Walk Together Association.
A key handover ceremony was held for the prefabricated homes built for 92-year-old Korean War veteran Kadir Çolak, whose home was destroyed in the 7.7-magnitude earthquake centered in Pazarcık on February 6, 2023, and who was rescued from the rubble with his wife, and 93-year-old Korean War veteran Mustafa Kurt, whose home was destroyed in the Süleymanlı neighborhood of the Onikişubat district.
The keys to the homes were presented to Korean War veterans Çolak and Kurt by Major General Eun Bong Shın, Personnel Commander of the Republic of Korea Army.
In his speech at the ceremony, Major General Eun Bong Shın delivered a message of unity and solidarity.
Stating that they set out to improve the living conditions of the veterans whose homes were destroyed in the February 6, 2023 earthquakes and to pay a debt of gratitude, Shin noted the following:
"As the Republic of Korea, we received the sad news about the Korean War heroes who were living in difficult conditions due to the earthquake that occurred in Turkey in 2023. While thinking about how we could reciprocate the sacrifices and dedication of these heroes, we decided to pay our debt of gratitude by improving their housing conditions. Today is a very meaningful day, as we are finally able to offer a small token of appreciation to our hero veteran who protected the Republic of Korea. I sincerely wish Mr. Kadir Çolak and his family many happy days ahead."
Korean War veteran Kadir Çolak also expressed that he experienced very emotional moments because the Republic of Korea did not forget him during these difficult days, and he thanked the Korean people.
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the house was handed over to the family.
