Speaking specifically about the allegations that an 8 million TL payment was made to journalist İsmail Saymaz's account, Altaylı shared information regarding the source and reason for this money.
Stating that unfair accusations against Saymaz are circulating in the public eye, Altaylı said, "The 8 million lira mentioned in the MASAK report is the transfer fee İsmail Saymaz received when moving from Sözcü TV to Halk TV. They are describing this as if he received base, illicit money. However, this is a completely legal and documented payment."
WHAT IS İSMAİL SAYMAZ ACCUSED OF?
In a statement regarding the detention of Saymaz, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office accused the journalist of "aiding in the attempt to overthrow the Government of the Republic of Turkey."
The statement made certain allegations regarding Saymaz's participation in the 2013 Gezi Park protests as the basis for this.
The statement alleged that Saymaz "had conversations with individuals who played a role in the preparation of Osman Kavala's website and the establishment of a television channel planned to be set up for the purpose of disseminating the actions through the press."
It was also stated that he had intense contact with the main defendants of the Gezi trial, Osman Kavala, Can Atalay, Çiğdem Mater, and Mücella Yapıcı, during the course of the events.
