RTÜK determined to shut it down: Açık Radyo's terrestrial broadcast is being cut off today

Açık Radyo, whose license was revoked by the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), is cutting its terrestrial broadcast today, just one month before its 30th anniversary. In a call issued by Açık Radyo, it was announced that a statement regarding the matter will be made today at 17:30 in front of the radio's building in Tophane.

On April 24, RTÜK had imposed a 5-time program suspension penalty on Açık Radyo due to the use of the phrase 'Armenian genocide' in the "Açık Gazete" program, and subsequently decided to revoke the 30-year-old radio's license on the grounds that the decision was not complied with.

The Ankara 21st Administrative Court, where the lawsuit filed by the radio regarding the broadcast suspension and fine decision was heard, had previously issued a stay of execution regarding the action in question. RTÜK's objection to this decision was rejected, and the radio had announced that it would continue broadcasting. According to the latest statement made by Açık Radyo, the same court notified the radio on September 27, 2024, that it had decided to "reject the request for a stay of execution" this time.

In the statement made by Açık Radyo on social media, it was noted that the terrestrial broadcast would be cut as of 13:00 today.
