78 people lost their lives in the fire that broke out at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Resort. While the investigation into the incident continues, a shocking claim has come from journalist Özlem Gürses.
Speaking on the Para Politika program on Sözcü TV, Özlem Gürses stated, "The fire department report is horrific. They were only able to arrive after 50-55 minutes. Then, our friends intervened with all their might and managed to rescue nearly 50 citizens from the windows, but it was too late. The sprinkler system in the hotel did not work either. It has also emerged as a finding in the reports as of today that the fire started on the 4th floor."
Gürses claimed that the hotel's sprinkler system did not work because the hotel managers turned off the main power switches when the fire broke out.
Gürses expressed the shocking claim with the following words:
"The allegation is that; during the fire, the managers at the hotel turned off the main power switches. With the intention of preventing it from spreading further or avoiding electrical leakage, the sprinkler system did not work for this reason. All of these are being handled within the scope of the investigation.
According to the latest statement from the Ministry of Justice, 12 people are in custody. Two of them are Bolu Municipality employees. It is said that the hotel owner and officials are also in custody, but there are also allegations of them fleeing, and such concerns exist."
