Istanbul was driven into chaos under the influence of severe southwesterly winds and heavy rainfall. The strong winds, which persisted throughout the day, combined with the downpour that intensified in the evening, causing widespread damage across the city. Due to the storm, some buildings were damaged, roofs were blown off, power lines were severed, and outages occurred in many regions.
RISKY BUILDING COLLAPSES IN BEYOĞLU
In the Keçeci Piri neighborhood of Beyoğlu, a wooden building that had previously been sealed due to being a risky structure partially collapsed under the influence of strong winds and rain. While there was no loss of life in the incident, local residents experienced great panic. Teams arriving at the scene after the collapse took security measures.
ROOF DEBRIS CRUSHES VEHICLES IN KAĞITHANE
In the Nurtepe neighborhood of Kağıthane, pieces torn from a building's roof due to the southwesterly winds fell onto three parked vehicles. While the vehicles sustained material damage, fire department teams arrived at the scene to secure the area.
PLASTER FLIES ONTO BALCONIES IN KÜÇÜKÇEKMECE
In the Söğütlüçeşme neighborhood of Küçükçekmece, the plaster layer of a building undergoing exterior reinforcement work was torn off by the wind and scattered onto surrounding roofs and balconies. In the incident, where there was fortunately no loss of life, building residents experienced a brief moment of panic. The moments when the plaster flew off were recorded by local citizens on their mobile phones.
In Sancaktepe's Merve neighborhood on Dursun Street, the southwesterly winds, which increased in intensity during the night, completely tore the roof off a building. The flying roof damaged a street lighting pole and power lines located on the street.
Following this, a widespread power outage occurred in the region. Teams arriving at the scene cut off the electricity completely for safety reasons, removed the damaged roof, and reopened the road to traffic.
The General Directorate of Meteorology reported in its warnings for Istanbul that the effects of the strong winds and precipitation would continue throughout the night. Authorities urged citizens not to go out unless necessary and to avoid being near roofs or construction sites.
