Following the passing of master artist Ferdi Tayfur, his assets became a subject of discussion for days. It was revealed that in addition to numerous real estate properties, his annual royalty income was around 35 million TL.
Recep Ergül, President of the Musical Work Owners' Professional Union (MESAM), made a statement regarding the royalty income claims.
Stating that Tayfur had 350 works registered in the MESAM database, MESAM President Recep Ergül said, "Although there has been a very significant increase in royalty incomes in recent years, there is no one in Turkey who can reach the figures mentioned. Any royalty that an artist who has produced this many works receives is their most natural right."
'THE REPORTS ARE BASELESS'
MESAM President Ergül used the following expressions:
"Information has appeared in some press organizations and social media pages stating that our valued member, the late Ferdi Tayfur, received 35 million in annual royalties from our union. This situation has not only saddened his family, whose grief is still very fresh, but has also been met with astonishment by our members who possess works equivalent to those of Ferdi Tayfur, and has justifiably led to expectations that they should also receive such royalty payments. These reports are absolutely baseless."
"Within the scope of the Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK), we cannot share the royalty amounts our members receive, but I can say this much: the figures mentioned are quite astronomical and are not realistic."
