Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz met with the economy news editors of media organizations at the 2024 Evaluation and 2025 Targets Information Meeting.
Responding to questions, Yılmaz gave a message that a legislative study would be conducted regarding the lowest pension.
Yılmaz stated that the final decision would be made in January with the approval of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Yılmaz said the following:
"The issue here is the lowest pension, which is not rule-based. At the point we have reached today, it has risen to 12 thousand 500 liras. A significant number of our retirees whose base salaries are lower are benefiting from this; they are receiving a pension higher than their base salary, meaning they are receiving a pension higher than the base salary linked to their premiums. You can only change this through legislation; since this is not something that comes from the normal system, but rather a structure that comes through legislation, it can only be provided by being regulated through legislation again. We will conduct a study on this; we do not think it is right to keep the minimum as it is while other wages are increasing. We will conduct a study, and a legal regulation will likely come to the agenda. Of course, after our government and our President finalize this decision, we will bring the legislative work to the agenda with our parliamentary group. I think this will happen within the month of January."
