In footage recorded by volunteers in front of the Gebze Municipality Stray Animal Treatment, Rehabilitation and Education Center, a large number of dogs and cats were found dead, discarded in trash bags inside a container. Animal rights activists who opened the trash bags stated that the bodies of the killed animals were still warm and that some were still struggling for life. A rights advocate who also works as a local volunteer alleged that a total of 30 dogs and 13 cats were killed using a drug called "Keta-Control".
A judicial and administrative investigation has been launched into the incident, and it has been announced that the officials involved have been suspended. Gebze Municipality claimed that the animals were "collected lifeless" from the streets.
The entirety of Tarkan's post is as follows:
"It was clear that the current law on stray animals would pave the way for these massacres.
To those who caused this, how will you pay for this sin? Shame on your unfeeling consciences! #MassacreInGebze #WithdrawTheLaw
