A woman named Maria Veronica Aparecida Cesar Santos, who worked as a teacher in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, garnered significant public attention by announcing that she was pregnant with 4 baby girls.
According to a report by T24, Santos' story received extensive coverage in local and national media after images showing her belly appearing much larger than normal throughout her pregnancy were released to the press.
Many philanthropists donated baby diapers, toys, and furniture to the woman. Some newspapers even collected money for the teacher and her unborn babies.
CAUGHT ON A TELEVISION PROGRAM
However, after she appeared on a popular television program, doubts about her pregnancy began to grow, leading to questions about the veracity of Santos' story.
The program's host pointed out that, for a mother expecting quadruplets, Santos appeared physically too comfortable and did not exhibit the known signs of pregnancy.
The host, whose suspicions grew due to Santos' behavior, invited her to a private meeting after the program and asked her to show her belly. However, Santos refused, claiming she had stretch marks.
Following this, journalist Chris Flores pursued the matter and launched an investigation. The investigation soon revealed that Santos' story was a lie.
HER DOCTOR STATED SHE WAS NOT PREGNANT
As part of the investigation, it was determined that the ultrasound image Santos showed to prove her pregnancy was fake. The images included an examination record featuring gynecologist Wilson Vieira de Souza.
When the doctor was tracked down, it was understood that while Santos had indeed come for an examination, it was revealed that she was not pregnant.

Following the incident, Santos returned to the spotlight over fraud allegations. Additionally, the mother who was the original owner of the ultrasound image filed a lawsuit against Santos, stating that these images had been stolen.
Santos was cleared of the charges against her after returning all the donations she had received. Remaining silent for a long time after the fake pregnancy scandal, Santos returned to social media at the age of 38 and introduced herself as a “born-again Christian.”
Stating in videos she published on YouTube that she is facing her past and regrets the mistakes she made, Santos said, “I opened this channel to reclaim my identity.
Many people know me as the “pregnant woman from Taubaté,” but I want to be known as Maria Veronica from now on. There are people who truly change, and I am one of them.”
