Testimony of mother with schizophrenia who killed her two children by cutting their wrists in Ankara revealed
In Ankara, Serpil Altınok Dereci, who is alleged to suffer from schizophrenia, killed her two children by cutting their wrists. The children's father stated that his wife refused treatment. Following the horrific incident, the mother's testimony has been revealed.

Yesterday in the Ayvalı neighborhood of the Keçiören district, Serpil Altınok Dereci, who is alleged to suffer from schizophrenia, cut the wrists of her children Afra Sümeyye Dereci, her physically disabled son Muhammet Ali Dereci, and her daughter A.B.D. (12) with a knife at home. While Afra Sümeyye and Muhammet Ali lost their lives, the injured A.B.D. was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
STATEMENT REVEALED
Serpil Altınok Dereci, who was taken into custody following the incident, was referred to the courthouse after the completion of police procedures.
In her initial statement to the police, Serpil Altınok Dereci claimed that someone was following and threatening her. It was learned that A.B.D., who is continuing treatment at the hospital, is out of danger.
"WE WERE GOING TO TAKE HER TO THE HOSPITAL 1 DAY BEFORE, BUT WE COULD NOT MAKE IT"
The father, Mehmet Dereci, who works as an accountant at a market, experienced great sorrow while waiting for the autopsy procedures of his children to be completed in front of the Ankara Forensic Medicine Institute.
Stating that his wife refused treatment, Dereci said, "No one could have guessed, known, or thought of this. Like every person, she naturally had nerves and had attacks. She had a treatment process before, during her single period. After we got married, there was no such process, of course. She had attacks from time to time, shouting and screaming; I would try to hug and calm her down. Because I have 3 children. But of course, no one could think it would reach this extent. I still begged her to get treatment, she did not accept it. I thought about taking her by force. This time I couldn't do it, thinking it might 'backfire'.
But I tried to treat her myself when she didn't accept it. It wasn't something very severe back then, but I wanted it not to progress, I wanted it not to get worse. But we didn't know. For the last 2 months, she was saying, 'They are following me, they will kill us.' I was telling her that such things didn't exist, I said, 'Let's go to the police station.' I understood, we were going to take her to the hospital one day before the incident, but we couldn't make it. May God give us patience. My children are in heaven," he said.
"DO NOT UPSET YOUR CHILDREN, SPEND TIME WITH THEM"
Mehmet Dereci stated that he learned about the incident when his eldest daughter called him while she was injured, saying, "I was at work; my eldest daughter called; 'Dad, help,' I couldn't make it. I said, 'My daughter, open the door, ask for help from the neighbors.' I hung up, we immediately called the ambulance, the police, and our relatives; we couldn't make it. Fate, God tests us like this.
We cannot prevent fate. There is nothing to do, I have surrendered. The last thing I want to say is this; do not upset your children, spend time with them, set aside time for them, do not stay away from your children for the sake of work, go home early, set aside time for your family," he said.
"WE CAN NO LONGER LIVE HERE"
Explaining that his eldest daughter's health condition is improving, Mehmet Dereci said, "We will have her transferred to Istanbul on Thursday. Because we can no longer live here, and she cannot live here either. My daughter and I will stand back-to-back and overcome this," he stated.
