The rate of internet users in Turkey has risen to 88.8 percent
In Turkey, the internet usage rate among individuals aged 16-74 reached 88.8 percent this year.

The results of the 2024 Household Information Technology Usage Survey conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute have been announced.
According to the survey, the internet usage rate among individuals aged 16-74 in the country was 88.8 percent. This rate was recorded as 87.1 percent last year. The internet usage rate for this age group was recorded at 92.2 percent for men and 85.4 percent for women.
The proportion of individuals who used official websites and applications for private purposes and benefited from public services via the internet within the last year was recorded at 73.7 percent.
This rate was 80.7 percent for men and 66.7 percent for women. When the proportion of individuals using e-Government services was examined by age group, it was observed that this rate was highest in the 25-34 age group at 92.1 percent and lowest in the 65-74 age group at 25.6 percent.
Among the purposes for which individuals use e-Government services, accessing personal information held about them by official authorities or public services ranked first at 68.6 percent.
This was followed by making an appointment or reservation with public institutions or public services at 47.9 percent, and obtaining information from websites belonging to public institutions at 45.1 percent.
The rate of purchasing or ordering goods or services for private use over the internet (e-commerce), which was 49.5 percent in 2023, rose to 51.7 percent this year.
The rate of purchasing or ordering goods or services was 54.1 percent for men and 49.3 percent for women. When this rate is examined according to the most recent time of purchasing or ordering goods or services, it was determined that 38.8 percent of individuals purchased or ordered goods or services in the first 3 months of the year.
In the first 3 months of 2024, 76.7% of those who purchased or ordered goods or services bought clothing, footwear, and accessories.
This was followed by deliveries from restaurants, fast food chains, and catering companies at 47.5%, food products at 34%, cosmetic, beauty, and health products at 32.4%, and cleaning products and personal care items at 29.2%.
While 70.3% of men purchased clothing, footwear, and accessories, and 49.2% purchased products from restaurants, fast-food chains, and catering companies, 33.5% shopped for food products.
83% of women purchased clothing, footwear, and accessories, 46.6% purchased cosmetics, beauty, and health products, and 45.9% purchased products from restaurants, fast-food chains, and catering companies.
The proportion of individuals engaging in learning activities for educational, professional, or personal purposes decreased by 4.9 percentage points compared to last year, falling to 13.9 percent. It was determined that this rate was 13.7 percent for men and 14.1 percent for women.
The social media and messaging applications most used by individuals were WhatsApp at 86.2 percent, YouTube at 71.3 percent, and Instagram at 65.4 percent. It was determined that men most frequently used WhatsApp at 89.5 percent, YouTube at 74.7 percent, and Instagram at 67 percent, while women used WhatsApp at 82.9 percent, YouTube at 68 percent, and Instagram at 63.9 percent.
It was observed that the types of systems and devices most frequently used by individuals who use the internet are internet-connected TVs at 47.9 percent, household appliances such as robot vacuums, refrigerators, ovens, and coffee machines at 10.2 percent, and smartwatches, sports or resistance bands, glasses or headphones, security tracking devices, accessories, clothing, or shoes at 9.7 percent, respectively.
In the last 3 months, 89.2% of individuals who used the internet stated that price was important when purchasing a mobile phone, smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. This was followed by hardware specifications at 71.7%, and brand, design, or size at 67.4%.
