The sea encroached 100 meters, villas collapsed
Following the collapse of villas and swimming pools at an old holiday village due to coastal erosion affecting a specific section of the beach in the Karasu district of Sakarya, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has launched a comprehensive study in the region.

Located on the coast of Karasu neighborhood, the old holiday village, which was one of the popular projects of its time, has reached the point of collapse as waves erode the shoreline.
Taking action upon the danger in the region, ministry teams have implemented a project to stop coastal erosion.
Karasu Neighborhood Headman Şefik Kır stated that the coastline will be brought under protection with the ongoing fortification works.

Providing information about the history of the area damaged by coastal erosion, Headman Şefik Kır said, "Construction began in 1985 after obtaining a holiday village permit with special zoning. The construction was completed between 1990 and 1995.
At the time it was set to open for service to impact tourism, coastal erosion also began to manifest itself.
On this beach, the sea was at least 100 meters further out. Today, the sea has advanced inland and reached right up to the structures.

Expressing his satisfaction that the project, which has been awaited for years, has moved to the implementation phase, Kır said, "We have been following the coastal protection wall project, which has been a project for about 13-14 years, for two years.
Currently, the breakwater work and the construction of the coastal protection wall have effectively begun at the point where Maden Creek meets the Black Sea," he stated.
With the completion of the works in the region, it is planned to prevent other structures on the coastline from facing a similar danger.
