The investigation into the gang that profited from newborn babies has been completed. The 1,400-page prosecutor's report requests the trial of 47 individuals. Among the suspects is the chief physician of a hospital founded by former Minister of Health Mehmet Müezzinoğlu.
It was noted that the health gang caused the deaths of at least 10 babies in order to receive more money from the Social Security Institution.
THEY HAD THREATENED THE PROSECUTOR
An investigation had been launched some time ago regarding allegations that 12 babies, who were admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital even though it was not necessary, died due to negligence in Istanbul. The prosecutor conducting the investigation, Y.E., was threatened in his office. The Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the incident. The indictment against 47 suspects was prepared by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
The prepared indictment also includes telephone conversations showing how the suspects referred babies to contracted hospitals. If the indictment, which is currently under evaluation by the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court, is accepted, the trial of the suspects will begin in the coming days.
THE PROCESS OF REFERRING BABIES TO HOSPITALS
The indictment states that Dr. Fırat Sarı and his employee Dr. İlker G. acted in collusion with Gıyasettin M. Ö., an ambulance driver for the 112 Emergency Call Center, Fehmi A., who handled patient transfers, and Serdar Y., who handled out-of-province patient transfers, to refer babies to the private hospitals they had contracts with.
It was understood that, together with Renas K., who works in the Health Services of the Esenyurt Municipality, they discovered baby patients born in private hospitals whose treatment was deemed appropriate to be carried out in other hospitals due to overcrowding, and sent them to their own contracted hospitals for treatment through the criminal organization they had established.
It was reported that after convincing the baby patient's family, a procedure called "treatment refusal" was performed for the baby, and by making it appear as if the patient was being referred to a hospital for the first time without obtaining a provision number from the 112 Emergency Call Center, they ensured the patient was admitted to one of the contracted hospitals within the organization through the emergency room, thereby obtaining financial gain.
The epicrisis report prepared by the physician for the patient is filled out with EK-3 and EK-7 reports, reported to the hospital's ASKOM personnel, and subsequently, after a request is created from the Public Hospitals Services Presidency (KHHB) 112 Coordination Center, a provision number is obtained and the transfer is carried out to private hospitals that have been previously notified to the 112 Emergency Call Center Directorate and possess the equipment to provide appropriate treatment. It was stated that by performing this process according to a certain order and sequence, they also tried to prevent actions contrary to competition conditions by ensuring that patients were referred to each hospital at the same rate.
