The investigation into two men who attempted to sexually assault a woman walking on the street in Beyoğlu has been completed. The prepared indictment demands a sentence of 30 years in prison for each of the suspects.

The investigation into Ömer Konu and Semir Tarhan, who blocked the path of İremşan A. as she was walking home in Istanbul's Beyoğlu district on September 23, 2024, knocked her to the ground, and attempted to sexually assault her by climbing on top of her, has been completed.
The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office states that the complainant, İremşan A., had been drinking at a nightclub on the day of the incident and was walking home around 04:00 when the suspects, Ömer Konu and Semir Tarhan, whom she did not know, blocked her path and touched her shoulder.
ONE HARASSED WHILE THE OTHER KEPT WATCH
The indictment states that although İremşan A. tried to move away to escape, the suspects cornered her. During this time, Semir Tarhan put his hand on the complainant's waist, made physical contact with her, stroked her hair, and would not let her go, eventually knocking her to the ground and climbing on top of her.
The indictment notes that the other suspect, Ömer Konu, kept watch, and that people in the vicinity intervened and drove the suspects away after witnessing the incident.
SHAMELESS DEFENSE: "I MAY HAVE TOUCHED HER WITH GOOD INTENTIONS"
The indictment states that in his testimony, suspect Ömer Konu claimed he might have touched the complainant with good intentions, while the other suspect, Semir Tarhan, stated that he regretted his actions.
Furthermore, it was reported that the suspects blocked the path of İremşan A. while she was under the influence of alcohol and unable to defend herself, and that they both deprived her of her liberty and committed sexual assault by kissing, touching, and hugging her.
DEMAND FOR UP TO 30 YEARS IN PRISON EACH
The indictment notes that there was no prior hostility between the complainant, İremşan A., and the suspects, and therefore there was no reason for İremşan A. to slander them.
The prepared indictment requests that suspects Ömer Konu and Semir Tarhan be sentenced to a total of 10 years and 6 months to 30 years in prison each for the crimes of "deprivation of liberty" and "simple sexual assault" against a person who is unable to defend themselves physically or mentally.
The trial of the suspects will begin in the coming days at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance.
