Following the funeral ceremony of Sırrı Süreyya Önder, a physical assault was carried out against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel by an attacker as he was leaving. Following the incident, the attacker was taken into custody by the teams.
In a statement made after the attack, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said: “An investigation has been launched regarding the assault on Republican People's Party Chairman Özgür Özel, who was attending an event today, and the individual who carried out the act has been apprehended and taken into custody.
