In the Ümraniye district of Istanbul, 19-year-old Yunus Emre Geçti shot and killed 27-year-old police officer Şeyda Yılmaz while fleeing from police teams.
Following the incident, it was learned that the judicial control conditions imposed on Geçti had been violated.
According to a report by DW Türkçe, the Istanbul Anatolian 2nd Criminal Judgeship of Peace issued a judicial control decision against Geçti on July 19, 2024, for a period of three months.
In accordance with this decision, Geçti was required to report to the police station twice a week to sign in. A letter was sent to the Dudullu Şehit İsmail Akkoyun Police Station from the Istanbul Anatolian Probation Directorate on July 25.
The sent letter emphasized that a violation of judicial control could lead to arrest, and requested that the directorate be informed immediately in the event of a violation, and that a report confirming the continuation of the judicial control be sent every month.
However, the suspect Geçti violated the judicial control decision and did not go to the police station to sign in.
It has been learned that the police station did not report this situation to the prosecutor's office.
The violation of judicial control was reported in writing by the Dudullu Martyr İsmail Akkoyun Police Station to the Istanbul Anatolian Probation Directorate on September 23, following the incident in which Yunus Emre Geçti shot Şeyda Yılmaz.
The article stated that the suspect did not come to sign in.
