Visually impaired teacher couple critically injured after being struck by municipal bus

The accident occurred on January 23 in a neighborhood in the central Sarıçam district. According to reports, visually impaired guidance counselor Gülşen Mut (39) and her husband, literature teacher Ediz Mut (52), had traveled to Adana from İzmit, where they work, for their semester break.

On Friday, while the couple was on their way to visit an association for the visually impaired, they were struck by a metropolitan municipality bus as they stepped off the sidewalk to cross the street. The couple was taken to the hospital by medical teams dispatched following reports from bystanders and was placed in intensive care. Meanwhile, the bus driver, who was taken into custody, was released after providing a statement.

Speaking on the matter, the family's lawyer, Oğuzhan Osral, stated, "Our two visually impaired teacher friends were struck by a bus belonging to the Adana Metropolitan Municipality while they were stepping off the sidewalk to cross the street. The accident happened just as they were about to step back onto the sidewalk.

The accident occurred approximately 1.5 minutes after the bus left the stop. The conditions of Ediz and Gülşen are critical. Ediz's condition is particularly severe; he is reportedly still suffering from a brain hemorrhage. He also has bleeding in his lungs and fractures throughout his body. Gülşen has regained consciousness. Her condition is currently better than Ediz's," he said.

Stating that Gülşen Mut is four months pregnant, Osral added, "Drivers need to be very careful. This incident occurred involving an Adana Metropolitan Municipality bus. I would like to ask the administrators: what criteria are used for these personnel recruitments?"
