GÜLTEN AKIN POEMS IN 'ISTANBUL MEETS POETRY'

Additionally, as part of the 'Istanbul Meets Poetry' event, the poems of Gülten Akın are being featured this week. Radife Baltaoğlu, Sevil Akı, Yeşim Koçak, Işıl Zeynep Karaalp, Şirin Asutay, Ebru Üstüntaş, and Elvan Boran will perform in the event, which is adapted and directed by Emre Koyuncuoğlu. The event will take place on March 2 at the Müze Gazhane Meydan Stage.

PLAYS TO BE PERFORMED AT THE CITY THEATRES THIS WEEK

SCHWEYK (Nilüfer City Theatre - Guest Play)

Dog seller Schweyk is arrested for remarks he made regarding the assassination attempt on Hitler. Written by Bertolt Brecht, translated by Yücel Erten, and directed by Doğu Yaşar Akal, the play will be at the Üsküdar Musahipzade Celal Stage from February 26 to March 1.

FOSFORLU CEVRİYE

The play presents the Istanbul of the 1930s and 40s with rich descriptions. It conveys striking stories about the relationships with authority of women, mothers, children, and flashy young men trying to hold onto life in the backstreets, prisons, and dens of the neighborhoods. Written by Suat Derviş, adapted by Gülriz Sururi, and directed by Yelda Baskın, the play will be at the Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage from February 26 to March 1.

THE UNCONQUERED (Ages 16+)

Relationships between people from different classes that begin with great disappointment and gradually become strange lead to tragic consequences. Written by Torben Betts, translated by Nazlı Gözde Yolcu, and directed by Nihat Alpteki, the play will be at the Kağıthane Sadabad Stage from February 26 to March 1.

I CLOSE MY EYES, I DO MY DUTY

In this cult work, the great master of Epic Theatre, Haldun Taner, satirizes the things that never change, as well as the individual and social transformations experienced from the 31 March Incident to the 1971 Memorandum. Written by Haldun Taner and directed by Yelda Baskın, the play will be at the Ümraniye Stage from February 26 to March 1.

HEART OF A DOG (Ages 16+)

Heart of a Dog asks the question of what makes a human human, through a public that has lost social peace due to social engineering, rotten bureaucracy, and class wars. Written by Mikhail Bulgakov, translated by Mustafa Kemal Yılmaz, and adapted and directed by Onur Demircan, the play will be at the Üsküdar Kerem Yılmazer Stage from February 26 to March 1.

THE DOME OF THE SKY (Ages 16+)

While women kept in a room without candles, fire, or food until a decision is reached try to reach a verdict about Sally, truths about their own pasts, bonds, and being a woman will also be revealed; making a fair decision about another woman's life will not be as easy as they thought. Written by Lucy Kirkwood, translated by Özden Gököz, and directed by Ali Gökmen Altuğ, the play will be at the Müze Gazhane Prof. Dr. Sevda Şener Stage from February 26 to March 1.

THE GYPSY BOXER

Based on the tragic life of the 1920s boxing star Johann Wilhelm Trollmann, the play is conveyed to the audience through the testimony of a fictional character, Hans. A striking story of a friendship to the death that starts in poor neighborhoods and continues to concentration camps... Written by Rike Reiniger and directed by Cafer Alpsolay, the play will be at the Müze Gazhane Meydan Stage from February 26 to March 1.

MY BICYCLE WAS BLUE

This journey into memories by a man following the traces of his first love and his longing for Izmir, where he spent his early youth, carries us from the Izmir of the 1950s to the present day. Written by Dinçer Sümer and directed by Ersin Umulu, the play will be at the Beylikdüzü Rasim Öztekin Stage on March 1.

EVERYONE WILL BE A MAGICIAN (Ages 3+)

The students of the famous magician Zubi enter a great competition to get his magic hat. In this fun play full of illusion shows, the importance of moving toward a goal together is emphasized. Written and directed by Kubilay Tuncer, the play features Aslı Şahin, Aybar Taştekin, Cihat Faruk Sevindik, Damla Cangül Yiğit, and Zeliha Bahar Çebi. The play will be staged at the Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage on March 2, 2025.

Dream (Ages 5+)

After Özgür sees the animals condemned to live in cages at the zoo in his dreams, he decides to take action to save them. Written by Özge Midilli-Ertan Kılıç and directed by Özge Midilli, the play features Alp Tuğhan Taş, Neşe Ceren Aktay, Pınar Aygün, Direnç Dedeoğlu, Gülce Çakır, Mehtap Gündoğdu Akbulut, Nilay Bağ, and Nilay Yazıcıoğlu. The play will meet audiences at the Kağıthane Sadabad Stage on March 2, 2025.

The Watchman and the Postman (Ages 3+)

Written by Lodovica Cima and Gabriele Clima, translated by Ceylan Özçapkın, and directed by Derya Yıldırım, this work tells a warm story based on the housemate relationship between a night watchman and a postman. Two friends who can never meet due to their working hours have to spend time together when they both get sick at the same time. The play, featuring Melisa Demirhan, Besim Demirkıran, Cafer Alpsolay, Fatma İnan, Reyhan Karasu, and Zeynep Ceren Gedikali, will be staged at the Üsküdar Musahipzade Celal Stage on March 2, 2025.

The Nutcracker (Ages 7+)

Adapted from E.T.A. Hoffmann's famous fairy tale by Dilşad Çelebi and directed by Lerzan Pamir, this classic work tells the magical adventure little Clara experiences with the Nutcracker, which was her New Year's gift. Staged with great visual appeal, the play features Asrın Gurur Kuyucak, Gözde İpek Köse, Cihan Kurtaran, Çağrı Büyüksayar, and many other talented actors. It will meet theatre lovers at the Ümraniye Stage on March 2, 2025.

A World Without Trash (Ages 4+)

Drawing attention to climate change and environmental pollution, this play tells the adventure of a hopeful kite that begins when it falls into a dump. Together with the characters it meets there, the kite struggles to change the order of the dump. Written by Arzu Yurtseven and directed by Nihat Alpteki, the play features Eylül Soğukçay, Pınar Demiral, Engin Akpınar, Samet Silme, and Mehmet Soner Dinç. The play will be staged at the Müze Gazhane Prof. Dr. Sevda Şener Stage on March 2, 2025.

Fairy Tale (Ages 5+)

Three children embark on a fantastic journey against a food thief who steals food unjustly. Along the way, they learn important lessons ranging from individuality to cooperation and fight against greed. Written and directed by Eftal Gülbudak, this impressive play features Ceren Hacımuratoğlu, Ercan Demirhan, Yeliz Şatıroğlu, Onur Şirin, and Volkan Öztürk. The play will meet audiences at the Beylikdüzü Rasim Öztekin Stage on March 2, 2025.
