Will the interview that drove Doğuş Can Kavaklı to suicide be cancelled? Statement from his lawyer
It has emerged that 22-year-old Doğuş Can Kavaklı, who ended his life by jumping from the 6th floor of the dormitory where he was staying in Samsun, had been eliminated from an interview he entered in first place just three days before the incident. Now, the family's only demand is for the interview in question to be cancelled. So, will the interview that drove Doğuş Can Kavaklı to suicide be cancelled? The family's lawyer, Tufan Akcagöz, spoke to 12punto.

Doğuş Can Kavaklı graduated from the Psychological Counseling and Guidance department last summer with a successful GPA. He continued his success by scoring 82 on the KPSS exam. Seeking employment with his high KPSS score, Kavaklı applied for the 'Social Assistance and Investigation Officer Recruitment' at the Asarcık District Governorate Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation.
Among the 5 candidates who applied, Kavaklı had the highest KPSS score by a wide margin, with the closest candidates scoring 76 and 72. However, upon the announcement of the interview results on September 28, Kavaklı learned that he had been eliminated from the interview he had entered in first place, and that a person with a score 10 points lower had been hired instead.
Three days after receiving the result, the 22-year-old young man ended his life by jumping from the 6th floor of the dormitory where he had gone to collect his belongings.
Now, both Doğuş Can Kavaklı’s family, relatives, and lawyer are demanding that the interview in question be cancelled, but there has been no response yet from either the Governor's Office or the District Governorate. Speaking to 12punto, family lawyer Tufan Akcagöz explained the current status of the process with the following statements:
“An unlawful process was carried out. An unfair interview took place, and as a result, a young person took his own life. Petitions have been submitted to the Governor's Office and the District Governorate for the cancellation of the interview.”
‘2 OTHER ELIMINATED CANDIDATES ALSO SUBMITTED PETITIONS’
Lawyer Akcagöz stated that two other candidates who took the same interview as Doğuş Can Kavaklı and were eliminated like him have also submitted petitions for the interview to be cancelled. Akcagöz said, “We are very sad. We are at least as sad as his family. This incident is not just an issue for Samsun, but for all of Turkey.”
‘THIS INTERVIEW IS STAINED WITH BLOOD, IT MUST BE CANCELLED’
Lawyer Tufan Akcagöz stated that they demand the immediate cancellation of the interview and spoke as follows:
“I appeal to the consciences of public administrators; cancel this interview. Restart the recruitment process. The interview must be cancelled; this interview is stained with blood.”
