According to data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the tremor occurred at a depth of 10.26 kilometers.
The earthquake, which took place at 03:14 in the morning, caused brief panic.
Some citizens who felt the earthquake in the city center went out into the streets.
Following the earthquake, Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan made a statement regarding the matter on his social media account.

"The M4.4 magnitude earthquake at 03:14 in the AFYON-Sinanpaşa seismic gap is important. The place where the Simav Graben Fault and the Afyon-Akşehir grabens meet is pregnant with a M7.2 earthquake. Hot springs and geothermal areas indicate the activity of the faults. Solid structure on solid ground."
