Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu’s detention on March 19 sparked protests in Saraçhane, which have now reached their fifth day. Saraçhane Square, where a large crowd gathers every night, hosted tens of thousands of people on the evening of March 23 as well. During the day, citizens who participated in the CHP's presidential candidate primary elections met in Saraçhane after casting their votes.
BOYCOTT CALL FROM ÖZGÜR ÖZEL TO MEDIA AND BRANDS
Having previously criticized mainstream media with harsh words, CHP leader Özgür Özel reiterated his call for a boycott once again. Özel stated that they would boycott media organizations that he claims are distorting the reporting of İmamoğlu’s arrest, as well as the brands associated with them.
"BOYCOTT THOSE WHO SERVE THE PALACE"
Özel stated that the boycott decision would cover not only media organizations but also the companies connected to them. Using the phrase, “You will earn money from us, you will sell your products to us, but you will serve the Palace; there is no such thing,” Özel said they would announce the brands they have identified one by one.
"EITHER YOU SHOW US OR YOU WILL HIT ROCK BOTTOM”
Criticizing the media for ignoring the protests, Özel said, “Browse the channels right now; whoever does not show the 1 million people gathered here, from now on we will boycott not only their televisions but all their brands.” He further emphasized that the boycott would be carried out decisively, stating, “Those sweet days are over, my friend. Either you show us or you will hit rock bottom.”
WEBSITE LAUNCHED FOLLOWING THE CALL
Following the boycott call made by Özel, a website became a topic of discussion on social media. On the website with the address boykotyap.com, brands that do not support the protests or are against the protests will be listed.
