Pet dog brings hand grenade home

In the Sisaket province of northeastern Thailand, a pet dog brought a hand grenade it found outside into the house. Speaking about the incident, which caused great panic, homeowner Rungnapa Duangta said that when she returned home at noon, she saw a rusty, round object lying on the ground at the entrance, and when she picked it up, she realized it was a hand grenade upon seeing the safety pin on it.

Duangta stated that according to her grandmother, who was at home during the day, the dog had brought the hand grenade from outside in the morning and chewed on it for a long time, and that family members had thought the object was a bone or a piece of plastic.

Police and bomb disposal experts were dispatched to the scene upon notification. The investigation determined that the munition was a Chinese-made "Type 82-2" fragmentation hand grenade and that it was still active despite being old.

Bomb disposal teams took the hand grenade to an area far from residential buildings and destroyed it in a controlled manner. After the explosion, a crater approximately 30 centimeters deep and 60 centimeters wide formed in the area.

Police Chief Chaiwat Thammawat stated in his explanation following the incident that the region had been used as a military training ground in the past, noting that the event serves as an important warning for citizens. The official called for people not to touch any suspicious explosives, munitions, or military materials if encountered and to report the situation to the authorities immediately.
