She had 400 grams of gold stolen at the market

The incident occurred last Sunday evening at the local market set up in the Sarıçam neighborhood of the central Yüreğir district. Meryem El Muhammed (37), a mother of four who fled the civil war in Syria and came to Adana, had saved 400 grams of gold over 17 years of working alongside her husband, who is a furniture maker. Fearing the gold would be stolen from her home, she constantly carried it with her, including when she went to the market.

Investigation launched to catch the suspect

According to allegations, while she was picking out a watermelon, an unidentified woman approached her from behind, hugged her, and at that moment, took the wallet full of gold from her bag. When the young woman opened her bag to pay the vendor, she realized her wallet full of gold was missing, understood it had been stolen, and went to the police station to file a complaint.

Police teams have begun an investigation to catch the woman described by Meryem El Muhammed by reviewing security cameras in the area.

"We were going to go to Syria and build a house"

Describing what she went through, Meryem El Muhammed stated that they were preparing to return to Syria next month and had saved the gold to build a house there, saying, "I went to the market to shop; while I was picking out a watermelon, a woman came and hugged me. I didn't notice anything at that moment; she had taken the wallet full of gold from my bag.

That gold was our 17 years of savings. Our house was destroyed in the war in Syria; we were going to go there and build a house. We were going to return to Syria next month, but this happened to us. I was carrying the gold with me for fear it would be stolen at home, and I had it stolen at the market. I want it to be found as soon as possible," she said.
