Stones dislodged from median after car crash shatter tram window: 4 passengers injured
In the Melikgazi district of Kayseri, stone fragments dislodged from a median after a car lost control and struck it, shattering the window of a passing tram. According to the information obtained, on Sivas Boulevard in Alparslan Neighborhood, the car with license plate 38 AFE 818, driven by E.K., struck the median after the driver lost steering control.
Stone fragments dislodged from the median broke the tram's window and entered the vehicle. In the accident, N.Y. (33), M.H.D. (24), Z.Ç. (23), and A.D., who were on the tram and struck by the stones, were injured.
Upon notification, police and numerous ambulances were dispatched to the area, while police teams took security measures on the road and ensured traffic flowed through a single lane. After providing initial intervention, medical teams transported the injured passengers to various hospitals in the city by ambulance.
On the other hand, in the alcohol test conducted by police teams, it was determined that the driver E.K. had a blood alcohol level of 2.0 promille; he was issued an administrative fine of 25,000 TL and his driver's license was confiscated for 6 months.
Since the driver's alcohol level exceeded 1.0 promille, judicial proceedings were initiated against him for the crime of 'endangering traffic safety,' and he was taken to the police station to have his statement taken.
The driver, who caused the injury of 4 passengers by driving under the influence, reacted to a journalist filming him by saying, "You're doing a good job." The moment of the accident was captured moment-by-moment by cameras on the tram.
An investigation into the accident has been launched.
