Why is the CHP holding a primary election?
The CHP set up ballot boxes for the primary election on Sunday, March 23. Voting, which began at 08:00, will continue until 19:00.

CHP members are heading to the polls for a primary election. A total of 5,600 ballot boxes have been set up across 81 provinces for the primary. In this election, those who are not CHP members will also be able to cast votes for support purposes, in addition to CHP members.
CHP members are participating in this primary to determine the party's presidential candidate. Voting for the primary, in which Ekrem İmamoğlu is the sole candidate, began at 08:00 and will end at 19:00.
Those who are not party members will also be able to cast votes at Solidarity Ballot Boxes to support Ekrem İmamoğlu.
CHP leader Özgür Özel had said regarding the Solidarity Ballot Boxes, "On Sunday, March 23, there will be a solidarity ballot box alongside our regular ballot box. Everyone from all political parties, from every viewpoint, but who stands on the side of democracy, is invited to vote in that box. We invite everyone who believes in the Republic, in democracy, in the ballot box, and who needs democracy to the solidarity ballot box on March 23. I invite all of Turkey to be at the solidarity ballot boxes."
