HOW TO TELL IF TURKISH COFFEE IS FRESH?
The quality of Turkish coffee depends on its beans. However, beans ground in your presence do not necessarily mean every coffee is fresh.
As Turkish coffee beans are roasted, the coffee's aroma intensifies, but the caffeine content decreases. Therefore, we can say that the coffee bean directly affects the taste of the coffee.
Turkish coffee is traditionally produced from Rio Minas Type 5 Arabica beans. It is indicated as Type G on the coffee bag. Therefore, when buying coffee, you can check whether it says Type G on the bag.
After purchasing the coffee, you can perform a test to see if it is good. Add 1 teaspoon of Turkish coffee to a glass filled with cold water. If the coffee powder stays on the surface of the water and gives off very little color, your coffee is fresh and high quality. If the coffee sinks to the bottom and stains the water, there may be foreign additives in the coffee.
The freshness of Turkish coffee can be understood from its scent. If you can smell the coffee from meters away, your coffee is very fresh. If you taste water rather than aroma when you drink the coffee, your coffee may have gone stale.
Another method to understand freshness is to take a pinch of coffee in your hand and examine the coffee particles. If the coffee grains do not stick together and scatter, the coffee is fresh. If the grains stick together, you can tell that it has gone stale.
