Stating that there are various ways to cleanse the liver, which is the body's main detox organ, Ok said, "You can start this detox by removing processed foods containing refined sugar and trans fats from your life and by including foods such as onions, garlic, artichokes, tomatoes, broccoli, ginger, turmeric, arugula, and fish in your menus."
Nutrition and Diet Specialist Hande Selin Ok emphasized that the liver is among the organs that must function very healthily. Ok said that many toxic or non-toxic substances, from the food and drink we consume to medications, pass through the liver. Noting that the liver's most important task is to separate nutrients from the blood and that it also ensures the regular functioning of many hormones the body needs, Ok spoke as follows:
"Helping the body process proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and medications, and playing a role in blood clotting are also among the liver's duties. While our liver absorbs toxic substances entering the body and ensures their excretion, it also performs a storage function. We must take care of our liver, which is one of our vital organs with such important tasks, as if it were our own eyes. It is very important for our general health that our liver works like a clock; however, we can tire or damage our liver with risky foods and drinks. Just as our liver purifies our body, our liver also needs a detox, that is, a cleansing."
6 WAYS TO CLEANSE THE LIVER
Dietitian Hande Selin Ok stated that it can be understood whether the liver is healthy by looking at liver function tests and enzyme values. Ok listed her 6 recommendations for liver detox as follows:
"Remove processed foods containing refined sugar and trans fats from your life.
Consume the juice of vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, arugula, parsley, kale, watercress, spinach, and carrots (along with their pulp).
Consume plenty of water suitable for your daily needs.
Always have greens in your life; do not miss out on green vegetables, fruits, and seafood at your table. Definitely include foods such as onions, garlic, artichokes, tomatoes, broccoli, ginger, turmeric, arugula, and fish in your diet.
Milk thistle helps clear toxic substances accumulated in the liver. The milk thistle plant is used more frequently, especially as a tea. You can add 1 teaspoon of milk thistle to 1 cup of boiled water, strain it and drink it, or you can consume preparations containing it.
Antioxidant-rich foods containing Omega-3, Selenium, Glutathione, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E are beneficial for the liver, and make sure to consume them. Vegetable dishes made with olive oil, fish, salads, dried legumes, radishes, cabbage, collard greens, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, arugula, watercress, red beets, carrots, and garlic are liver-friendly foods."
