7-kilogram mass removed from uterus of woman who presented with abdominal pain

Semra Akgeyik (43) recently presented to Malatya Training and Research Hospital with complaints of abdominal pain. Examinations revealed a large mass extending from the woman's uterus up to below her chest. A 7-kilogram tumor located in the woman's uterus was successfully removed during a successful 3-hour operation.

"A RARE CONDITION"

Obstetrician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Engin Yıldırım stated that they encountered a rare condition as a result of the examinations they performed.

Noting that they noticed a mass approximately 40 centimeters in diameter on the ultrasound that started from the uterus and extended to below the chest, Yıldırım said: "When our patient presented to our clinic due to abdominal pain, she had shortness of breath. In addition, she had severe swelling along with increasing abdominal pain, and this swelling was causing distress to the patient, particularly at the lung level as well as the spleen and liver levels. We were having difficulty estimating the boundaries of the mass associated with this swelling. We took our patient into surgery the same week. We successfully removed a large mass weighing approximately 7 kilograms and reaching 40 centimeters in diameter from our patient's abdomen. We are waiting for the pathology results of the mass. Hopefully, if the results come back positive, we will also have spared our patient from chemotherapy or radiotherapy."

"I COULD NOT STAND THE PAIN"

Semra Akgeyik stated that she was happy to have regained her health, saying, "I could not stand it because of the pain; I had constant pain in my abdomen and back. I am very well now, I underwent a major surgery and I am comfortable now."
