23-year-old Hatice Öncü, who wanted to undergo a rhinoplasty operation at a private hospital in the Çiğli district of İzmir, checked into the hospital on Wednesday, April 22. It was reported that the young woman fell ill during the surgery and was immediately taken to intensive care for treatment. However, as her condition worsened, she was transferred to İzmir City Hospital a day later, where she could not be saved despite all interventions.

Following the news of the tragedy, Hatice Öncü's body was sent to the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy. Her relatives announced that they have filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office against the hospital and the doctors who performed the surgery.

Authorities stated that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

"SHE CAME OUT OF SURGERY, THEY TOOK HER TO INTENSIVE CARE"

Hatice Öncü's mother, Remziye Kanak, pointed out that her daughter entered the surgery healthy and cheerful, saying, "She came out of surgery, they took her to intensive care, they couldn't save her, and they sent us here. Shut that hospital down. I am filing a complaint. My heart is broken; I don't want anyone else's to be. My daughter was only 23 years old, she was perfectly healthy, she walked in on her own two feet. They told me, 'Your daughter has edema in her brain and lungs.' They told me, 'Your daughter is fine.' They lied to me, deceived me, and stalled me."

Family members alleged that they were not provided with sufficient or accurate information regarding her health status after the surgery.

Her father, İbrahim Öncü, claimed that the documents at the hospital contained statements indicating that his daughter could not wake up from anesthesia. Pointing out that his daughter never recovered from the surgery, the father said, "We filed a complaint against them. My daughter was intubated at that hospital. I spoke to the doctor on the phone while coming to the hospital. I asked, 'What is wrong with my daughter?' The doctor told me, 'I need to transfer her.' Something happened during that surgery. It was a botched surgery."

Her grandfather, Mehmet Mahsum Kanak, stated that they paid 70 thousand liras for his granddaughter's operation. Kanak explained that Hatice entered the surgery in good health and, after failing to wake up following the procedure and staying one night at the hospital, she was transferred to İzmir City Hospital. Kanak said, "Our girl passed away this morning."
