Diyarbakır Dağkapı State Hospital Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Murat Acar has issued a warning regarding pollen allergies.

Dr. Acar stated that while the arrival of spring brings with it a seasonal change and transformation where nature revives and is practically reborn, this change can also turn into a factor that makes life difficult, especially for those with allergic constitutions.

"NASAL CONGESTION AND RUNNY NOSE, COUGHING, WATERY EYES..."

Stating that pollen is one of the primary factors that come to mind when mentioning an allergic constitution, Dr. Acar noted that pollen allergies, which emerge due to seasonal changes in the autumn and spring months, should be taken into consideration.

Expressing that pollen allergy is a type of seasonal allergy that appears in the spring months and is usually triggered by tree, grass, and weed pollen, Dr. Acar said, "The immune system of people who are allergic to pollen shows a reaction by releasing certain chemicals. This situation causes symptoms such as nasal congestion and runny nose, coughing, watery and red eyes, and itching in the nose and eyes. If the symptoms are severe enough to affect a person's daily activities, it is beneficial to consult a healthcare facility. The best precaution in the treatment of pollen allergy is to avoid the factors that trigger the allergy. However, this may not always be possible. If complaints continue despite taking preventive measures, antiallergic drugs and allergy vaccines may be preferred; drug treatment must be carried out under doctor supervision and strictly with a prescription."

Dr. Murat Acar stated that if symptoms are severe enough to affect a person's daily activities, one should consult a healthcare facility, wear hats and sunglasses when outside, take frequent showers to cleanse hair and body of pollen, and avoid going outside on windy days or when pollen density is high.
