Bacteria alert for baby wipes produced in Turkey: Being pulled from shelves!

Target, one of the leading retail chains in the United States, has initiated a comprehensive recall process after two different types of harmful bacteria were identified in wet wipes it marketed for babies. The wipes in question were produced by Sapro Temizlik Ürünleri in Turkey.

Following reports from consumers regarding eye and skin irritation, infections, and discoloration in the products, analyses conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) detected bacteria types that pose health risks. Target has informed its customers to stop using the products immediately and stated that they will be refunded upon returning the purchased packages.

The statements emphasized that these bacteria could lead to serious infections, particularly in babies, young children, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Social media users are also voicing complaints about brown spots and foul odors in newly opened packages of the products.

Sapro, one of Turkey's leading wet wipe manufacturers, is known to have accounted for 65 percent of Turkey's total wet wipe exports in 2024 and generates approximately 75 percent of its revenue from exports.

Target officials stated that the action taken is intended as a 'precautionary measure.' It was noted that the official investigation into the complaints and cases of irritation is ongoing.

Recently, recall decisions have been drawing attention not only for wet wipes but also in the personal care and cosmetics sector. In recent months, brands such as L'Oréal, La Roche-Posay, and Drunk Elephant have also pulled some of their products from the market due to various chemical issues and formulation errors.
