A significant step has been taken in the fight against cancer, one of today's global health problems. Scientists have found an effective solution against cancerous tumors using the capabilities provided by nanotechnology. Newly developed nanorobots have shown success in reducing tumors by 90 percent through the bloodstream.
The research, led by scientists at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and CIC biomaGUNE, was conducted in collaboration with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). In studies conducted on mice, it was determined that 450-nanometer-sized nanobots could shrink a tumor after a single trial, potentially eliminating the need for multiple tumor treatments.
The developed nanobots can move effectively through the bloodstream thanks to their surfaces coated with gold nanoparticles and can launch a targeted attack against tumors. This technological solution could be more effective than current treatment methods and could significantly simplify the treatment process for patients.
In diseases such as bladder cancer, where the treatment process is quite costly, nanobots could allow for the tumor to be shrunk with a single intervention, thereby reducing the frequency of patient visits. This could both lower treatment costs and improve the quality of life for patients.
This important development opens the doors to a new era in the fight against cancer, once again demonstrating the potential of nanotechnology in the field of healthcare.
