Crisis at the door: Trump's decision could also affect Turkey
It has been stated that Donald Trump's decision to lower drug prices could lead to price increases in countries dependent on imports. Experts, noting that Turkey could face serious difficulties in accessing critical medicines, assessed the situation as "a development that will complicate matters for developing countries like ours that are dependent on foreign sources for pharmaceuticals."

US President Donald Trump stated in an announcement made the other day, "Prescription drug and pharmaceutical prices will be reduced by 30 to 80 percent. Prices will increase globally, thus ensuring equality."
Murat Tülü, President of the Istanbul Chamber of Pharmacists, said that this decision could cause a drug crisis in Turkey.
According to a report by Cumhuriyet, Tülü stated that the implementation in question is "a development that will complicate matters for developing countries like ours that are dependent on foreign sources for pharmaceuticals," and noted that major difficulties could be experienced, especially with oncology drugs and products used in the treatment of rare diseases. Stating, "We are completely dependent on foreign sources for these drugs. If drug prices increase in Greece, Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal, which we use as references, it is possible that they will increase here as well," Tülü pointed out that Turkey would be one of the countries most affected by this process. Emphasizing that urgent measures are needed to mitigate the effects of the crisis, Tülü said, "A critical drug list must be created. A mandatory minimum stock requirement should be introduced for pharmacies and hospitals. Domestic drug production must be supported."
'THE DECISION TAKEN WILL AFFECT THE WORLD'
Arman Üney, President of the Turkish Pharmacists Association, also emphasized at a press conference held within the scope of Pharmacists' Day that the decision taken would deeply shake not only the US but the global pharmaceutical market.
Üney stated, "This decision will affect the world. Because the US is the largest and most profitable market in the pharmaceutical sector. Price changes in this market, where pharmaceutical companies generate their highest revenue, will lead manufacturing firms to reshape their global pricing policies. We anticipate that the decision will be reflected as upward price pressure in many developing countries from Europe to Asia."
