Expert warns: 'If exposed to too much sunlight...'
Op. Dr. Mehmet Ekinci made important statements regarding the fact that the risk of skin cancer may increase if one is exposed to too much sunlight.

Issuing warnings about skin cancer, the frequency of which is increasing all over the world, Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Specialist Op. Dr. Mehmet Ekinci pointed out that the risk of skin cancer may increase if one is exposed to too much sunlight.
''THE WORST TYPE OF SKIN CANCER IS...''
Stating that there are 3 different types of skin cancer, Ekinci said, “Skin cancers appear as a significant problem among all cancers. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer. Skin cancers appear in three types. Among these, the basal cell carcinoma type accounts for nearly 80 percent of skin cancers. In terms of progression and clinical presentation, it is not a fatal cancer, and 98 percent of it is a type of cancer that must be treated without showing any spread. The other type of cancer is squamous cell carcinoma. This type also accounts for nearly 20 percent of skin cancers. This type of cancer has a 2 percent higher probability of causing death compared to the other type. It also has a rate of spreading to other organs. The least common and worst type of skin cancer is malignant melanoma. It occurs mostly due to genetic predisposition. It ranks in the top 5 among all cancers. It is very important in early diagnosis”.
''CITIZENS SHOULD NOT GO OUT WHEN THE SUN IS AT ITS PEAK''
Continuing his speech by saying, “Skin cancers mostly arise from genetic predisposition and sun exposure”, Ekinci stated, “These types of cancer are seen more in fair-skinned individuals. The biggest reason for this is excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays. Citizens should not go out when the sun is at its peak. Those who will go out in the sun should definitely use sunscreen”.
Explaining the treatment process for skin cancer, Ekinci noted the following:
“We diagnose this type of cancer after taking a biopsy. Once diagnosed, the first treatment is a surgical procedure. Afterwards, we send the patient to an oncologist to receive supportive treatment. But in 90 percent of cases, the disease ends after surgical treatment.”
