Yellow serum causes death: Critical warning from the Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health has issued a warning due to recent fatal cases involving vitamin-supplemented IV drips, commonly known as "atom" or "yellow serum" among the public. Following deaths in Adana and Afyonkarahisar, experts emphasized that these serums should only be administered under doctor supervision and in a hospital setting.

Selinay Yüksekbaş, a mother of two living in Adana, visited a local pharmacy due to flu symptoms. The young woman, who requested an IV drip from the pharmacy assistant, was given a mixture containing Novalgin and 10 different medications.
PASSED AWAY AFTER THE DRIP
However, Yüksekbaş fell ill shortly after receiving the drip and was rushed to the hospital. Despite all medical interventions, the young woman could not be saved and passed away in the early hours of the morning.
Following the incident, the pharmacy assistant was detained but was released after providing a statement.
ANOTHER DEATH IN AFYONKARAHISAR
A similar case occurred in Afyonkarahisar. 38-year-old Mehmet Gündoğan went to a private clinic on January 13 with flu complaints.
After being administered the "yellow serum" without any prior examination, Gündoğan experienced difficulty breathing and fell ill. His friend, who was with him, called the 112 Emergency Call Center for help.
Gündoğan, who was rushed to Afyonkarahisar State Hospital, passed away in the intensive care unit.
Following the incident, the Provincial Health Directorate launched an investigation.
WARNING FROM THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH
The Ministry of Health has warned citizens against practices known colloquially as "atom," "vitamin serum," or "yellow serum."
In the statement made by the Ministry:
It was emphasized that such drips should only be administered under doctor supervision and in a hospital setting,
That they contain medications that carry a risk of allergic reactions,
And that uncontrolled administration can lead to life-threatening situations.
Experts stated that a doctor's approval must be obtained before having any IV drip administered.
WHAT IS YELLOW SERUM?
Yellow serum, which is claimed to strengthen the immune system and increase resistance to diseases, is known as a mixture containing vitamins, painkillers, antibiotics, and muscle relaxants.
It is prepared and administered to patients in some pharmacies and private clinics without a doctor's prescription. However, this practice can have fatal consequences.
WHY DOES YELLOW SERUM KILL?
Recent fatal cases are caused by uncontrolled and unconscious administration.
Here are expert opinions on why yellow serum is dangerous:
1. Allergic Reactions: The Novalgin, antibiotics, and various other drugs it contains can cause severe allergic shock in some individuals.
2. Anaphylactic Shock: It can lead to rapid shortness of breath, a drop in blood pressure, and cardiac arrest.
3. Incorrect Content and Overdose: The content of the serum can be prepared unconsciously with the wrong drugs mixed in, which can result in death.
4. Danger of Intravenous Use: Drugs administered intravenously can cause sudden reactions, leading to the patient's death within minutes.
THE DEADLY DUO
Research indicates that the primary causes of deaths linked to yellow serum are contamination (germ transmission) and incorrect dosage. Drips not prepared under sterile conditions can lead to septic shock, while high potassium levels can stop the heart, especially in patients with kidney failure. Experts warn that "even a 1-2 ml overdose can have critical consequences."
