Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek has been hospitalized again due to a sleep apnea condition that carries serious medical risks. According to the information obtained, Böcek's health problems have been increasing during his detention, and it has been determined that his breathing frequently stops during sleep, causing his oxygen levels to drop to dangerous levels.
In a statement made by his lawyers, it was noted that Böcek's sleep apnea is in an advanced stage, that his breathing stops completely from time to time, and that this poses a life-threatening risk. This marks the tenth time Böcek has been referred to the hospital due to this condition.
The report prepared as a result of the polysomnography, or sleep test, conducted at Antalya City Hospital revealed that Böcek spent the night with numerous instances of respiratory arrest and low oxygen levels. According to the report data, it was determined that Böcek experienced an average of 44.8 instances of respiratory arrest or slowing per hour. This diagnosis is classified as "severe sleep apnea" in medical literature.
It was reported that the condition worsens during sleep, especially when lying on his back, and that his lowest oxygen saturation level dropped to 76 percent. Specialist doctors recommended starting a treatment process with a CPAP device, which is commonly used in such serious cases. The CPAP application plays an important role in regulating oxygen exchange throughout the night by preventing the airway from closing.
It is known that when sleep apnea is left untreated, it can lead to various health problems, primarily cardiovascular diseases, and sudden complications.
