Bariatric Surgery Dietitian Cansu Arslan stated that the Jerusalem artichoke prevents aging.

Arslan made statements regarding the Jerusalem artichoke, which is very rich in terms of the vitamins and minerals it contains.

'STRENGTHENING THE IMMUNE SYSTEM IS IMPORTANT'

Arslan stated that the Jerusalem artichoke should be consumed frequently, saying, "As the effects of autumn are felt, many points such as protecting our body against diseases during seasonal transitions, strengthening our immune system, and supporting our skin exposed to cold and hot weather are important. Eating right is a good support for us in each of these steps.

When we evaluate autumn foods from this perspective, the Jerusalem artichoke draws our attention. During these periods, we need to include the Jerusalem artichoke, a tuberous food that grows underground like a potato in our country, more frequently in our diet," she said.

'REDUCES STRESS'

Stating that the Jerusalem artichoke has a stress-reducing effect, Arslan said, "When we look at the content of the Jerusalem artichoke, which has a pure white internal structure like celery, radishes, and onions; it is a good source of vitamins A and B. It has a potential nervous system-protecting and stress-reducing effect. It provides bodily vigor. It is a food that stimulates both the kidneys and the intestines.

In other words, we can say that it is a diuretic and prevents constipation. It reduces pain from stomach and rheumatic diseases. It accelerates wound healing, is anti-aging, and protects skin health. It is low in calories and can be consumed in satisfying portions in weight-loss diets. Contrary to what is thought, it does not contain starch like potatoes, and diabetic patients can consume it," she stated.

'THIS FOOD SHOULD BE INTRODUCED TO CHILDREN'

Underlining that children should also consume it, Arslan said, "It can be eaten raw by peeling it slightly, it can be grated and added to yogurt, or it can be cooked with olive oil with carrots and onions like celery. We need to increase its use in our kitchens and introduce this food to our children," she said.
