In a large-scale study conducted by Chinese scientists, the relationship between exercise frequency and the risk of heart disease was examined on the basis of gender. In this scientific study, which included approximately 85 thousand people aged 37-73 from the UK, participants wore accelerometers to measure their physical activity for one week.
The data was monitored and analyzed over a period of approximately eight years. According to the results, it was revealed that men need to perform about twice as much moderate and high-intensity exercise per week as women to minimize their risk of coronary heart disease.
The study found that women who performed an average of four hours of moderate-to-high intensity physical activity per week had approximately 30 percent less risk of developing heart disease compared to men. It was observed that men needed to exercise at this intensity for approximately nine hours per week to achieve a similar level of risk reduction.
Furthermore, it was stated that while 51 minutes of weekly exercise is sufficient to reduce the risk of death for women diagnosed with heart disease, men need to exercise for 85 minutes per week to achieve the same benefit.
According to the scientists, these findings show that different genders need different recommendations to protect heart health. The results of the research were published in the prestigious scientific journal "Nature".
