The World Health Organization has announced that a new variant of the mpox virus, first detected in Africa, has spread to four continents and poses a serious threat. Experts warn that if this spread cannot be brought under control, a new pandemic could be on the horizon.

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that healthcare services in Sudan have been severely disrupted and that millions of people are affected by this situation. Ghebreyesus said, "Millions of people in Sudan are being deprived of healthcare due to ongoing attacks on health facilities and the obstruction of life-saving aid."
Addressing the impact of the conflicts in Sudan, Ghebreyesus noted that the WHO has delivered aid to regions such as Tawila and provided support to families fleeing El Fasher. This aid includes treatment for cholera and acute malnutrition, as well as maternal and child health services.
Ghebreyesus called on the international community, stating, "The WHO is ready to provide more, but we need access now. Lives depend on it."
THE IMPACT OF CONFLICTS IN SUDAN
Sudan has been shaken by ongoing clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 15, 2023. El Fasher, the largest city in the Darfur region, has largely fallen under the control of the RSF following these clashes. While tens of thousands of people have been displaced due to the fighting, reports of RSF violations and acts of violence against civilians have been reflected in videos shared on social media.
