New regulation for private hospitals
A regulation changing the opening and licensing processes for private hospitals has entered into force. With the new regulation, investments will be determined based on regional healthcare needs, preventing excess capacity in densely populated cities.

With the "Regulation on Licensing of Health Services" published in the Official Gazette, the opening processes for private hospitals and other private healthcare institutions have been reorganized. The new model mandates that private healthcare investments be planned according to regional needs analysis from now on.
According to the regulation, the "healthcare service needs of the region and existing infrastructure capacity" will be the primary criteria when evaluating license applications. In this context, the aim is to "encourage investments in regions where they are needed, particularly in Anatolia, while preventing the formation of idle capacity in overly dense regions." Reducing resource waste and ensuring the balanced distribution of healthcare services across the country are among the main objectives of the regulation.
STAFFING STANDARD IMPLEMENTATION
The regulation also introduces a new staffing standard for private hospitals. Accordingly, it will be essential to "harmonize the physical capacity, human resources, and technological infrastructure" of the institutions. All licensing processes will be conducted centrally and transparently by the Ministry of Health. With this step, the Ministry aims to "ensure that all citizens have access to healthcare services at equal quality standards."
