The 'Sheila Jones Award' of the European Society for Phenylketonuria and Allied Disorders Treated as Phenylketonuria (E.S.PKU), which brings together approximately 41 national and regional associations from 34 countries under one umbrella, was presented in Birmingham, England.
The winner of this year's competition, determined by a vote conducted by the Birmingham Children's Hospital Metabolic Team and E.S.PKU Board members, was the PKU Family Association.
'A GREAT SOURCE OF PRIDE'
PKU Family Association President Deniz Yılmaz Atakay stated in her speech at the award ceremony, "Our lives are quite difficult and full of struggle. Our greatest sources of strength are our children. We must always remain standing and strive for their quality of life and their rights.
As an individual and as the PKU Family Association, we have received many awards in our country, but receiving such a meaningful award from Europe is a great source of pride and prestige for us."
