SSI adds cancer drug to reimbursement list

A person living in İzmir's Çiğli district, who was diagnosed with lung cancer, filed a lawsuit after the Social Security Institution (SSI) refused to cover the cost of a drug prescribed by their doctor, which costs 92,270 Turkish Lira per course. The court ruled that the SSI must pay for the drug.
A.K., a resident of the Çiğli district, applied to the court after learning that a drug prescribed by their doctor following a lung cancer diagnosis about a year ago was not covered by the SSI, and that the cost of this drug was 92,270 Turkish Lira per course.
SSI APPEALED
The İzmir 6th Administrative Court finalized the application requesting that the cost of this drug be covered by the SSI. The decision emphasized that, pursuant to Article 56 of the Constitution, the provision of the drug in question must be fulfilled by the administration without interruption.
Upon the SSI's appeal of the decision, the 5th Administrative Litigation Chamber of the İzmir Regional Administrative Court reviewed the file and stated that the reasoning of the lower court's decision was in accordance with procedure and law, and that there was no situation requiring the decision to be overturned.
